Chargers claim seven-wicket success in Chennai Adam Gilchrist's blazing half-century set the platform for the Deccan Chargers to claim a seven-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings. Opening batsman Gilchrist plundered 54 off 36 balls to ensure his side had little difficulty chasing down a target of 145. After the Australian departed in the 10th over - caught by Subramaniam Badrinath off Albie Morkel's (1-26) bowling - with the score on 78, Scott Styris' unbeaten 36 saw the Chargers home with exactly two overs to spare. The Super Kings had struggled to a total of 144-7 after being asked to bat. Suresh Raina top scored with 32 off 21 balls before a late flourish from Morkel (29no), batting at number seven, at least gave the hosts something to defend. RP Singh (2-12) led a disciplined effort from the Chargers seam bowling attack to set-up a result that moves them off the bottom of the IPL points table.
