IPL: Warne "disappointed" by Ganguly antics

Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne has accused his Kolkata Knight Riders counterpart Sourav Ganguly of a lack of sportsmanship following their IPL clash on Thursday.

Warne slammed the Indian opener for taking too long to come out to bat and then challenging Graeme Smith's claim to have dismissed him in the Royals' 45-run win.

Smith looked at first to have taken a fine diving catch in the deep, but Ganguly received a reprieve from the third umpire.

Warne said in the post-match press conference: "I was extremely disappointed with Ganguly's behaviour.

"He took his own time to come out to bat. He was going on his own time. We were left waiting for Sourav to come out. He wanted extra time. I said 'mate the game is not just about you'.

"I told him we have to start on time. We have to bowl the overs in an hour and 20 minutes.

"He also questioned the decision of his getting out - when an international captain like Graeme Smith said he took it (the catch) cleanly.

"We had all signed the treaty of fair play."

Ganguly was eventually caught by Mohammad Kaif off the bowling of Warne for 51 as the Knight Riders were all out for 151 chasing a victory target of 197.

Kolkata chief executive Joy Bhattacharya hit back at the veteran Australian, claiming Ganguly's actions were well within the laws of the game.

He said: "He just appealed to the umpire to check if the catch (by Smith) was clean. He was perfectly within his discretion to ask the third umpire and the umpire could say yes or no."

Bhattacharya added: "He (Warne) is no stranger to controversy. For us to react would just give importance to Warne's comments."
