Indiand Premier League Kings Punjab XI of Mohali prevailed by six runs in a dramatically-shortened Indian Premier League match against Delhi Daredevils, thanks to a last-ball six from Mahela Jayawardene. The weather meant the match was already reduced to 11 overs per side in the usual Twenty20 competition, but when Mohali's innings was cut short after just eight overs they were sufficiently ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis method to claim a tight victory. After winning the toss and batting first at home, the Daredevils made 118-4 from their 11 overs, with captain Virender Sehwag hitting a blistering 51 not out. Mahela Jayawardene starred for Kings Punjab XI and his remarkable 36 from just 17 balls proved to be enough for the win, with his six from what turned out to be the final ball of the match putting them ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis target for a six-run win. Sehwag and fellow Indian Gautum Gambhir gave Delhi a good start with an opening stand of 75 before Gambhir was bowled for 40. Only minimal assistance was offered to Sehwag as he closed unbeaten on 51 from just 26 balls with two fours and five sixes. Mohali's response started dreadfully with opener Shaun Marsh going quickly, but Yuvraj Singh kick-started the innings with his fine cameo of 23 runs from just eight balls. Yuvraj's impact got the run-rate rolling and Luke Pomersbach continued that with 25 off 12 balls while Sri Lankan Jayawardene smashed his fine 36 off 17. The pair's quick-fire partnership of 63 saw Mohali on 94-3 when their innings ended after eight overs. Jayawardene's clobbered six over deep mid-wicket came off the final ball and the covers came back on again to end the match with Mohali ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis score by six runs to grab the win.
